Fissure Sealants
What is the purpose of fissure sealant? The chewing surfaces of teeth have recesses and bulges into which food particles enter and cannot be easily cleaned. These are places where decay commonly begins. As children in particular do not have much concentration or dexterity while brushing, these particles may remain on their teeth. Our aim is to fill these recesses with a fluid material so that they are easier to clean.
When should fissure sealant be applied? The ideal time for sealant is when the first permanent teeth emerge. This happens around the age of six. When the other molars emerge, the process can be applied to them as well.
