Porcelain Inlay and Onlay Fillings
What are inlay and onlay fillings?These are porcelain-based fillings prepared in a laboratory by a technician. Just as a normal filling is prepared, any decay or old filling is cleaned out of the tooth. Measurements are taken of the cavity and sent to the laboratory. Using high-tech equipment, the technicians produce a precisely crafted filling. Using special adhesives, the filling is secured to the tooth. This is the ideal option in situations in which a large filling must be done but crown treatment is not desired. The coherence of inlay fillings with the tooth is very good with a wonderful consistency between the tooth and the gums. As they are secured with extremely strong adhesives, the risk of cracking found in composite and amalgam fillings is almost nonexistent for porcelain fillings. The only disadvantage is that their costs are higher than those of other fillings.
